Search Server 2010 Express
10 May 2010

In my previous post, I have provided some information about the SharePoint Foundation, which is a free download of the Microsoft Sharepoint that works with SQL Server Express Edition.

It is always essential to be able to look for the desired data in a collaboration web site, which is created in Sharepoint Foundation.

Search Server 2010 Express is also a free download that enables the users of the Sharepoint Foundation 2010 to easily add search features to the collaboration environment across many SharePoint sites, for searching on shared files and folders as well as contents if the Exchange Public Folders, web sites and any shared resource. Click on the following link to download.

ASP.NET 4 Charting
20 Feb 2010

ASP.NET 3.5 does have an option to download chart controls as add on. The good news is that ASP.NET 4 comes with built-in charting controls asp:chart in data tab of the tool box.

Using this control does not need any extra configuration and so they can be used in web applications without any restriction keeping the web.config file clean from the extra configuration previously required for charting.

Smart Printer
8 Nov 2009

Recently HP has revealed the first Web Connected Home Printer with built in web apps such as Google Maps and Snapfish that allows the user to access the web via printer to print photos, maps and much more.

The Printer is called HP TouchSmart Web All in One and uses the HP TouchSmart Technology.

The print quality is the same as the latest non TouchSmart model, and not all of the web apps are really to use on everyday basis. It does not allow web access, but only access to applications that are supported and built in to the model.

I personally prefer a touch screen monitor with an application to control the printer, as my PC is always on!

I Will be Here

The video "I Will be Here" and the picture "VISIT JAPAN, LOVE JAPAN"by HARUKA OKABE - NAGOYA School- 6th Grade (from http://www.joes.or.jp/foreign/info/postercontest/honorable_mention.html) brings back good memories from my travel to Japan. Sharing them with you is a great pleasure.

QR Code
29 Oct 2009

When visiting Japan, I realised that people point their mobile phones to the square bar code like images on magazines, postcards and even ads on streets and train stations.

These square codes are known as QR Code and they are actually 2D bar codes. The pointing of the camera phone to these codes, will open the web page of the advertiser as the URL of their web site is hidden in the QR Code.

Down the Rabbit Hole
4 June 2009

Once upon a time, Alice went down the rabbit-hole to meet her anthropomorphic rabbit. No need any more for the sinking experience. We now can have an anthropomorphic 3D animated character on our TV screen to interact with.

Could this be our answer to best friends? Could we open our hearts to this?

If Facebook forces us to tell them about our lives via interaction of our fingers with the keyboard, the Project Natal for Xbox is ready to catch a bigger fish as they would recognise our body language and our emotions.

So how much we can trust this new anthropomorphic friend?

Tech 2008
3 Jan 2009

2008 was the year of many technical learnings for me and what made it possible?

1. Google Search Engine
2. Good browsers like FireFox and Google Chrome
3. Gmail that made it possible for me to keep in touch online and read so many rich electronic newsletters such as Computer Weekly, Oracle Magazine and SitePoint
4. YouTube which made it possible to watch seminars, trainings, talks and interviews and travel the world from your desktop
5. Google Earth.. this one is fantastic combined with Google Sky
6. Google Analytics, which allowed me to measure traffic trends and visitor details such as browsers used, or keywords search to reach my sites
7. Alexa, which gave me three monthly trends to my web sites traffics
8. Adobe, with its Dreamweaver and Photoshop CS3
9. Windows Live
10. And finally my recent start on Twitter!

e^(i pi)
23 Nov 2008

There are many things that Google can do as well as search. Two of them are calculation and unit conversion. If you are geeky enough to know the Euler's identity, and consequently know what e and pi are and expect to see a -1 as a result, try this in Google search:e^(i pi)
you can get result for almost anything by typing the correct formula. Try some more:

Earth mass in pounds
Minutes in century
XXXX in decimal
Speed of Light
Light year in meters
((123456 ^ 2) / 5) + (sqrt 654321)

the answer to life the universe and everything

Have fun.

Personal Pictures
23 Nov 2008

Digital cameras have a default naming convention for saving photos. By knwoing these naming, you can use Google Image Search functionality to see random personal pictures as many people do not bother to change the default name of the files.

Try finding images by for example typing img_***.jpg replacing the stars with numbers.
dcp******.jpg, dsc*****.jpg, dscn****.jpg, mvc_***.jpg, p101****.jpg, pmdd****.jpg, 11**-****.jpg, _mg_****.jpg, dscf****.jpg, pdrm****.jpg, im******.jpg, ex******.jpg, dc****s.jpg, pict****.jpg, p*******.jpg, mmdd****.jpg, yymdd***.jpg, imgp****.jpg, and pana****.jpg.

What are you waiting for. Go and see lots of odd pics!
